Originally the Poorhouse for the parish of Assynt, Torbreck Cottage was built in 1847 funded by a donation from the Duke of Sutherland, it housed up to seven residents plus a resident nurse. It ceased to be a poorhouse after the introduction of the National Assistance Act in 1948 and became a holiday cottage.

We purchased the cottage in 2018 and extensively and sympathetically renovated it; transforming it into a stylish holiday cottage brimming with charm. We live locally on a large croft next to the Cottage, our family has lived on this croft since 1898. Torbreck Croft House; the original croft house built by our great grandfather is also available to rent www.torbreckcroft.co.uk. The cottage and croft house can be rented together, perfect for 2 families wanting to holiday close to each other. they are separated by the single track road and a field.
